The Tale of The Three Brothers

I have been looking forward to this post for quite awhile: I planned this outfit very particularly. I got this Harry Potter inspired shirt at a clothing swap last year and have been waiting for the perfect opportunity to wear it.

So, without further a do, I would like to share with you my first tattoo! I actually got in December, but I wanted to wait until it was fully healed. I love it so much. Sometimes, I forget about and look down, see it, and get excited about it all over again.

For those of you who might not know, this symbol is called the Deathly Hallows from the Harry Potter series. It comes from a tale that is embedded in the final Harry Potter book. (Here is the amazing video from the final movie).

I know that some people might find it a little silly or stupid to get a tattoo of something from a book, but the Harry Potter series are important in my life for a multitude of reasons.

There is of course, the basic reason that the lesson behind the famous series includes the importance of friendship and love. One of my favorite quotes from the last books is spoken by Dumbledore, saying "Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living and above all, those who live without love."

It also reminds me of my childhood and the importance of reading. While my mother never really understood why I wanted to read the books, she never said I couldn't read something - something that I never really appreciated that  until I was older and realized how that impacted my life. If I was restricted from reading something when I was younger, reading wouldn't have been something so meaningful in my life and who knows how much life would have been different.

Because of these reasons, my first sermon two summers ago was heavily influenced by Harry Potter. It was called "United by Love: The Power the Dark Lord Knows Not."

So, I thought about this tattoo ideas for a while - well over a year. Then towards the end of last semester, my friend Kara and I were in a talent show at school where we performed a song in sign language. When we were practicing, I was joking saying, "if we win, I'm going to use my half of the money for my tattoo!" And then we won. So, over Christmas break I took a giant breath and got it!

Now, I love it and it has already become a part of me. I'm sure you'll see it again in other posts - and maybe my skin won't look so dry and red from the longest winter know to man here in PA, but I knew something this special needed an extra special post!

Do you guys have any ink? Leave me a comment, if so or if you are planning something soon!

Oh, because you can get a Harry Potter themed tattoo without pretending it is the Dark Mark.

I have that same shirt! haha. One of my best friends got it for me for Christmas (or maybe it was my birthday?). I love your tattoo, and I love all of the things that Harry Potter is really about...because it's about way more than just a boy wizard doing magic and fighting a bad guy. I also love reading and have been toying with the idea of getting a tattoo with something related to that (especially since now I'm officially a librarian!), though I'm not sure what yet. I have a million tattoo ideas that I want to get. I have two so far (one in the same spot as you! and the other on the inside of my ankle). I'm not one for getting really big tattoos or really conspicuous tattoos, so my problem is always figuring out where to place them, especially now that two of the main areas are taken! I've been thinking about the back of my ankle on the other foot and maybe the top of my shoulder blade or the inside of my upper arm. The trouble is deciding which tattoos to pick! haha. I've been meaning to do a post about my tattoos, but I never know exactly how I want to photograph them!

Glad you got a tattoo that means so much to you! I could never get one myself because I'm such a wimp, but yours is cute and little, and obviously fits your personality too. Plus I love those boots! They work so great with your red skirt.

Oh my gosh Laura!! That tattoo is so awesome! It suits you perfectly and I don't think you could've picked better. I'm a bit of a Harry Potter fan too, I actually just finished reading the Deathly Hallows for the 100th time. The series is definitely a masterpiece.
I love the colour pairings in this outfit too, red is definitely your colour!

I loooove your tattoo! That's seriously unique! I don't have any tattoos right now, but I do have a couple ideas for them, one is Harry Potter themed and I want it to say "mischief managed".

PS- love the graphic tee+skirt look!
