Hot Pants

Hey all!

Hope that everything is well with you!

I’m so glad that I got a chance to snap some pictures with Amy last week - isn't she just looking awesome in that coat?  It was exactly what I needed, a little laughter and escape from everything for a while in the coldest photo-shoot of the season. (Seriously, where is our spring weather? – this is how I was feeling today when I woke up.)

Amy:
Jeans/Necklace: Forever21
Shoes: Gap
Coat: Vintage: Thrifted
Ring: “oh geez, I don’t even remember.” – Amy

I have to say, like most bloggers, I struggle sometimes with how open how I do or don’t want to be on my blog. It is so easy talk about the silly things I do with my friends and put on a happy go lucky face – I mean seriously, who couldn’t smile when wearing vintage sequined high-waisted shorts?

But, that isn’t always real life. Sometimes, honestly, life just plain sucks. I try to stay positive on here, because that truly is a reflection of who I am – the majority of the time I am that bubbly and slightly crazy gal running from class to work in some vintage get-up or another.

However, this semester has been hard on me. Not so much school, not directly anyway, but various difficult moments in all aspects of my life have been bringing my spirit down. Last week, was especially hard and I just didn’t feel good. I found myself being a person I didn’t really recognize – a sad, angry, and emotionally worn-down person.

Finally, I just took some time to really reflect on myself and the way that I was feeling. I thought to myself, “Laura, we all have these times. And it is okay with how you are feeling – you can’t control how you feel. However, you can control how you react to those feelings. And right now, you aren’t reacting in a way that is healthy for you.” Through this realization, I was able to work through some of my concerns and handle them in a way that, I feel, was much more beneficial than feeling miserable.

My friend posted this article on her Facebook the other night and I literally wanted to cry at how strongly it hit me. It isn’t a long read and I strongly recommend giving it a look, but I do want to share my favorite part of it:
“You know what you have to do now, and just like more often than not in life, you know what the right thing is. It’s just having the courage to do it. It’s easy to sit in your misery and feel sorry for yourself. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that worrying about something will change it. Have the courage to choose happiness.”
Sometimes life is really hard; so hard that you feel like you can’t stand anymore. However, I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and those things that are the hardest? Those are the things that we learn the most from.
So, between choosing happiness and learning from all those hard things, we can not only see a life that is hard and painful, but one that is beautiful and wonderful, simply because it is yours.

I certainly did not mean to get so serious tonight, especially with a title like ‘Hot Pants!' But, I guess sometimes you have some thoughts in your head that you didn't know that were there until you start typing.  Thanks for sticking with me!
I hope that you all have a wonderful start to the week!

xoxo,
Laura

P.S. I linked this post up with 'Thrifter Thursdays' over on Coffee and Cardigans. Check it out!

Life Recently: Spring Break and Snowstorms

Hey all! I finally got to go through some of the pictures tonight of the first part of Spring Break, where Amy and I stayed with our gal pal Alexa for a weekend.

Here's what we did.

We went to a really cool indoor farmer's market:

Where we ate a lot of yummy food

We even brought some delicious things - like chocolate covered potato chips and whoopie pies - for home.

Then, while fighting off a chocolate coma, we watched Law and Order: SVU, made silly faces, and did some Facebook creepin'.

The next day we went out to T.G.I. Fridays for lunch.

It was such a good way to kick off Spring Break.  I did some traveling with my office over break too, but unfortunately I'm a currently camera-less, so that part of my break wasn't documented properly. It was a blast though!

Here are some pictures from last Spring Break if you are curious.

Oh, yeah, when we got back to school, we got hit with a massive snow storm.

So we made a giant snowman.

Have a great one!

xoxo,

Laura

P.S. I'm sure that you have all heard about Google Reader being shut down on July 1st, so if you still want to follow TTL, Bloglovin' is an excellent way to do so!

Let's Remix this Business #2

Hey everyone! I swear, I'm alive!

Things have been completely insane around here lately, I really didn't expect to be away for so long, and quite frankly I didn't like it.

But, with midterms, illness, family health concerns, traveling for work, and a bunch of other crazy things, life has been hectic and confusing to say the least.

But, hopefully things are getting back on track soon. Blogging really does make me a happier and more productive person!

Now that is taken care of, let me tell you about one of my favorite articles of clothing ever. I thrifted this 90's Express romper about a year and a half ago for a price under $5.

Even though I have complained about the fact that there is a zipper in the back multiple times (seriously, who does that?), it still is a staple in my closet that I have worn countless times. When I don't know what to wear, this is usually what I grab.

I was seriously upset when recently it caught caught in the zipper of my vintage suitcase. My mom got it out, but not without ripping some of the material. She is pretty confident that she can fix it without it being noticeable. *fingers crossed.* I need my staple back.

Have a great weekend everyone!

A Post Inwhich We Reflect on our Weirdness

Woah! Long time no blog.

Life has been a tad cray around here - it is that '1/4 way through the semester' time and the test/papers have started being due.

But life in rooms 309/311 (we're in a quad now!) has been pretty grand. And hilarious. Well...at least we think so. Thus, the events of our past week can either be described as awkward or awesome.

Awkward:

You know that girl on campus who runs through the quad singing musicals like 'Les Mis' and 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' at 11:15 at night?? Yeah. That's Laura.

Amy laughed hysterically for at least 9.5 minutes at this video.*

Boys. Enough said.

Laura's 'Bad Life Choice of the Century': eating two - yes two - Clif bars in about a 5 hour span. Yeahhhhhh.

We procrastinate a lot.

This is the 3rd outfit post in the row that I (Laura) has worn the same skirt; I swear - I do wear other things. I know, I know - 'picture, or it didn't happen.' It has been cold. Don't judge.

*I think only Laura found this awkward. I (Amy) found it amazing. Watch it. Now. You will die with laughter, promise.

Amy:
Coat: Thrifted: Vintage
Sweater: H&M
Jeans: Forever 21
Shoes: Thrifted

Awesome:

Late night Wendy's/McDonald's run for wild berry lemonade and the first Shamrock Shake of the season!

This has been our theme song lately. 'Bless the rains' has been the answer to everything between us and our gal pal Alexa.

We are going home tomorrow to celebrate Amy and her sister's birthdays - the party is 90's themed! Just wait; our outfits are totally rad.

Boys. Enough Said.

Laura found out unexpectedly this week that she is moving back to this lovely house for a second year of summer interning at her church!  Plus, Amy has an interview coming up to be a tour guide at a local backyard safari - yeah, such a thing exists! So fun!

Laura was featured on the ModCloth blog today!

This lovely P&P link here. What character are you!? Laura is Bingley and Amy is Charlotte. We were really glad we didn't get Collins. "What excellent boiled potatoes!" Creep.

Spring Break is coming! Celebrate!
